Taxi Fares in Gdańsk 2026: Prices, Surcharges and How Not to Overpay

How much is a taxi in Gdańsk? There is no single number, because a metered fare is built from several parts and changes with the operator, the time of day and whether you leave the city. Here is how to read a Polish taxi price list, where surcharges come from, how a rank taxi, a phone booking and an app ride differ in price, and when a fixed price agreed before the ride is the better deal.

Tell us the route and time and we will confirm a fixed price per car, with no meter and no night surcharge: Gdańsk city centre from 130 PLN (approx. 32 EUR), Sopot from 140 PLN (approx. 35 EUR), Gdynia from 160 PLN (approx. 40 EUR).
1) What a Gdańsk taxi fare is made of

A regular taxi in Gdańsk, as anywhere in Poland, charges by the meter. The number on the display is not random: it is made of three basic parts, and every operator has to show them on a price list inside the car, usually a sticker on the side window.

Flag fall

A fixed amount charged the moment the meter starts, before the car even moves. You pay it on the shortest of rides, which is why a one or two kilometre trip always feels expensive.

Per-kilometre rate

The main part of the fare on longer routes. It depends on the active tariff, explained below, and it is where taxi companies and independent drivers differ the most.

Waiting time

When the car is stuck in traffic or waiting for you, the meter charges for time. At rush hour on the ring road or around the Main Town this can add a fair amount to the final bill.

One thing visitors rarely realise: rates are not the same across the whole city. Polish law lets the municipality cap taxi prices, but within that cap every operator sets its own price list. Two taxis parked side by side can charge different amounts for the same trip, and both are perfectly legal. The only way to know beforehand is to look at the price list in the car or ask the driver for an estimate.

That is exactly why more and more travellers choose a fixed price for rides where the cost matters. You do not count kilometres or minutes in traffic, you simply agree one amount for the whole route. We explain how that works in what a fixed-price transfer means.

2) Tariffs: day, night, holidays and out-of-town rides

A taxi meter has several tariffs, and the driver switches between them depending on the time and place. Polish cities commonly use four. Tariff 1 applies on weekdays within the city and is the cheapest. Tariff 2 covers rides in the city at night, on Sundays and on public holidays. Tariffs 3 and 4 are the day and night rates beyond the city limits, with a higher per-kilometre charge because the driver often returns empty.

In the Tricity this matters a lot. Gdańsk Airport lies within Gdańsk, but a ride from the airport to Sopot, Gdynia, Rumia or Pruszcz Gdański leaves the city, so part of the route may run on the out-of-town tariff. Land at 11 pm on a Saturday and the night rate kicks in as well. The final amount can then be much higher than the "normal taxi price" someone quoted you for a daytime ride.

✅ Same fixed price at night ✅ No out-of-town tariff ✅ No holiday surcharge

With a fixed-price ride, tariffs simply do not exist. The amount belongs to the route, so a ride at 3 am on Christmas Eve costs the same as one on a Tuesday lunchtime. Read more in night transfers from Gdańsk Airport and does the price change in traffic or at night.

3) Rank, phone or app: why prices differ

The price depends not only on the operator and tariff, but also on how you order the ride. In Gdańsk you have three main options, and each of them calculates the cost a little differently.

Option How the price is set What to watch out for
Taxi from a rank Meter, based on that car's price list Rates vary between drivers, night and out-of-town tariffs
Taxi ordered by phone Meter, sometimes with a rough quote from the dispatcher The drive to your pickup point may be built into the flag fall
Ride-hailing app Estimate before the ride, driven by demand Sharp increases at peak times, in rain and during big events
Pre-booked transfer Fixed price for the route, confirmed before the ride Needs booking in advance, ideally with your flight number

Apps look cheap at quiet times and often are good value for short hops around town. The catch comes when demand rises: on a Friday night, during a concert at the stadium, in a downpour or when several flights land within fifteen minutes. The algorithm raises the estimate and pickups take longer. For a detailed comparison, see Bolt, Uber or a private transfer from Gdańsk Airport.

4) Fixed prices from Gdańsk Airport in 2026

Our model is simple: there is no meter. The price is set per route and per car, not per kilometre or per minute. It includes a car for up to three passengers with luggage, flight tracking, a meet and greet in the arrivals hall with a name sign and up to 60 minutes of waiting after landing. The most popular routes are below, and the full list is on our prices page.

Route from Gdańsk Airport Fixed price from
Airport – Gdańsk city centre130 PLN (approx. 32 EUR)
Airport – Sopot140 PLN (approx. 35 EUR)
Airport – Pruszcz Gdański150 PLN (approx. 38 EUR)
Airport – Gdynia160 PLN (approx. 40 EUR)
Airport – Rumia / Reda200 PLN (approx. 50 EUR)
Airport – Wejherowo250 PLN (approx. 62 EUR)
Airport – Tczew250 PLN (approx. 62 EUR)
Airport – Władysławowo300 PLN (approx. 75 EUR)
Airport – Malbork360 PLN (approx. 90 EUR)
Airport – Elbląg390 PLN (approx. 98 EUR)
Airport – Hel450 PLN (approx. 113 EUR)

The "from" price applies to a standard ride to an address in that town. When you book, you give us the exact address, the number of passengers and your luggage, and we confirm the final amount by text or email before the ride. That amount does not change afterwards, whether there is a traffic jam or your flight is late. For routes not listed here, see how to estimate a transfer price from GDN.

5) Meter or fixed price: real-life examples

A fixed price is not always the best choice, and it is fair to say so. If you are staying in the city centre and going three kilometres to Gdańsk Główny station in the middle of the day, a regular taxi or an app is perfectly sensible. A fixed price starts to win wherever the meter has the most room to grow.

The meter makes sense when

  • ✓You are going a short distance within one district.
  • ✓It is a weekday, outside rush hour.
  • ✓You have no big luggage and no children.
  • ✓The pickup time is not critical.

A fixed price wins when

  • ✓You are going to or from the airport.
  • ✓The ride is at night, at the weekend or on a holiday.
  • ✓The route leaves Gdańsk, for example to Gdynia or Hel.
  • ✓You need a known budget, for example for business travel.

Take a typical case: a family with two children lands on a Friday at 10:30 pm and heads to Gdynia. From the rank, the meter switches to the night tariff, part of the trip may count as out of town, and roadworks on the ring road add waiting time. With a booking, the same family pays from 160 PLN (approx. 40 EUR) per car, has a driver waiting in the arrivals hall and a child seat ready for 30 PLN (approx. 8 EUR). They know the amount before they board the plane.

Longer rides follow the same logic. On the way to Malbork, Elbląg or Łeba the gap between day and night and between city and out-of-town tariffs becomes very noticeable, while a fixed price of 360 PLN (approx. 90 EUR), 390 PLN (approx. 98 EUR) and 500 PLN (approx. 125 EUR) respectively settles it. Business travellers also get easier expense reports, since we issue VAT invoices on request, as described in airport transfer with a VAT invoice.

6) How not to overpay: a checklist

Whether you ride with us or hail a taxi in the street, a few simple habits protect you from an unpleasant surprise when it is time to pay.

  • ✓Check the price list before you get in. The rate sticker should be visible on the window. If it is missing, ask about the rates first.
  • ✓Ask for a rough estimate. An experienced driver can usually give an approximate figure for a common route.
  • ✓Watch the tariff on the meter. On a weekday in the city, the basic tariff should be running.
  • ✓Ask for a receipt. Taxis are required to issue one, and it shows the trip and the amount.
  • ✓Agree on payment first. Not every rank taxi takes cards, so ask at the start.
  • ✓Book airport rides in advance. A fixed price removes the risk of night tariffs, traffic and detours.

On our rides you agree the payment method in advance: cash in PLN or EUR, card, BLIK, mobile payments or bank transfer. All options are covered in payment methods for Gdańsk Airport transfers.

In short: a taxi fare in Gdańsk depends on the operator, the tariff and the traffic. If you want to know the amount before the ride, book a fixed price: Gdańsk city centre from 130 PLN (approx. 32 EUR), Sopot from 140 PLN (approx. 35 EUR), Gdynia from 160 PLN (approx. 40 EUR) per car.
7) Extras worth asking about

With a metered taxi, extra costs hide mainly in the tariffs and waiting time. With a pre-booked ride it is worth asking what exactly the price includes, because not every company counts the same way. With us, every extra is optional and known at the moment of booking.

  • ✓Child seat or booster: +30 PLN (approx. 8 EUR).
  • ✓Extra stop on the way: +30 PLN (approx. 8 EUR).
  • ✓Van for 7-8 passengers: priced individually.
  • ✓Up to 60 minutes of waiting after landing, luggage, nights, weekends and holidays: no surcharge.

FAQ
How much does a taxi in Gdańsk cost in 2026?

A metered taxi charges a flag fall, a rate for every kilometre driven and, where applicable, a waiting-time charge in traffic. Each operator sets its own rates within the limits set by the city, so the same route can cost different amounts with different companies. With a fixed-price airport transfer you know the amount in advance: Gdańsk city centre from 130 PLN (approx. 32 EUR), Sopot from 140 PLN (approx. 35 EUR) and Gdynia from 160 PLN (approx. 40 EUR) per car.

Are taxis in Gdańsk more expensive at night?

With a meter, usually yes. Night rides, Sundays and public holidays are charged on a higher tariff, and rides beyond the city limits on an out-of-town tariff. Our transfers have no night, weekend or holiday surcharges, because the price is set for the route rather than per kilometre or time of day.

Is a ride-hailing app cheaper than a regular taxi?

Sometimes, at quiet times. App prices rise with demand, though, so on a Friday evening, in heavy rain or when several flights land at once the estimate can go up noticeably. If you want a predictable cost, a fixed price agreed before the ride is the safer choice.

How can I avoid overpaying for a taxi in Gdańsk?

Check the price list on the window before getting in and ask for a rough estimate, make sure the meter runs on the right tariff and ask for a receipt. For airport rides and longer distances, the simplest option is a pre-booked ride with a fixed price confirmed by text or email.

Is the transfer price per person or per car?

Per car. The fixed price covers a car for up to three passengers with luggage, flight tracking and up to 60 minutes of waiting after landing. A child seat or an extra stop can be added for 30 PLN (approx. 8 EUR). For larger groups we offer a 7-8 seat van, priced individually.
