Does the Transfer Price Go Up in Traffic or at Night?

Short answer: it depends on how the price was set. We explain when traffic and time of day affect your transfer cost from Gdańsk Airport — and when they don't.

Want a price confirmed before you travel?
We agree the price before booking — no surcharges for traffic, flight monitoring included.
1) Traffic – does it affect the transfer price?

In a metered taxi: yes — every minute in a jam adds to the bill. With a pre-agreed fixed-rate transfer: no — traffic delays are the operator's risk, not yours.

Gdańsk and the Tri-City have predictable bottlenecks: the city centre route at rush hour, Sopot in summer, the Gdynia approach. A fixed-rate transfer protects you from these unpredictable costs.

When traffic has no effect on the price

  • You booked a fixed-rate transfer agreed before the journey.
  • The price was confirmed in writing (email or WhatsApp).
  • The operator doesn't charge waiting time in traffic.

When traffic can push the price up

  • !You take a street taxi — the meter runs throughout.
  • !The route is significantly longer than usual (e.g. a major diversion).
  • !The operator charges for journey time over a set threshold.
2) Night-time rate – when does it apply?

For standard taxis in Poland, a night tariff typically applies between 22:00 and 6:00, meaning a higher per-kilometre rate and higher waiting charges.

With a fixed-price transfer, the price is usually the same regardless of time of day — unless the operator explicitly applies a night surcharge. Always worth confirming at booking.

Late-night arrivals – what to know

  • With a pre-booked transfer, the price is confirmed regardless of the hour.
  • Your driver waits for you — no hunting for a taxi in the dark.
  • Flight monitoring — driver knows about delays before you do.

Street taxi at night – the risks

  • !Low car availability after late flights.
  • !Night tariff — noticeably more expensive than daytime.
  • !Longer wait at the terminal taxi rank.
Arriving after 10 PM? Ask at booking whether a night surcharge applies. Our prices are set before the journey — no hidden tariffs.
3) Delayed flight – does it cost extra?

This is one of the most common questions. Your flight is delayed by an hour — does the driver send you a waiting charge?

With a transfer that includes flight monitoring, the driver tracks your flight status and adjusts arrival accordingly. If the flight is late, the driver arrives later. In this model, the wait is included in the price.

With a standard street taxi: the driver waits at the agreed time and may charge waiting time on top of the fare.

Flight monitoring included
Our transfers include flight monitoring — if your plane is delayed, we know before you land. Your driver arrives at the right time.
4) How to lock in a guaranteed price

A few simple steps to eliminate the risk of unexpected costs:

  • Agree the price before booking — not after the ride. Ask for written confirmation of the amount.
  • Ask about night rates — if arriving between 22:00 and 6:00, confirm whether a surcharge applies.
  • Check the delay policy — is flight monitoring standard, or an optional extra?
  • State your destination precisely — a last-minute change of address can trigger an extra charge.
  • Declare large luggage or a child seat upfront — avoids surprises on arrival.
FAQ
Does traffic increase the transfer price from Gdańsk Airport?

With a pre-agreed fixed-rate transfer: no. You pay what was agreed, regardless of traffic or journey time.

Does a night-time transfer cost more?

It depends on the operator. Some apply a night surcharge (22:00–6:00). With a fixed-price booking you can confirm the total before you travel.

Does a delayed flight cost extra?

With a transfer that includes flight monitoring, waiting for a delayed flight is included in the agreed price. The driver adjusts arrival to your actual landing time.

What if my flight is delayed by several hours?

For very long delays it's worth contacting the operator to confirm the new time. In most cases there's no extra charge — but it's good to agree this in advance.
