Are There Taxis at Gdańsk Airport? Taxi Rank, Fares and How to Book a Taxi from GDN

The short answer is yes. Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport has a taxi rank that runs around the clock. The longer answer is more useful, because once you walk out of arrivals you really have three options: a taxi from the rank, a ride-hailing app, or a transfer booked in advance. Here is where the rank is, how fares are worked out, when a fixed price makes sense, and how to book a taxi from GDN without queuing.

Rather have a driver already waiting?
Send us your flight number and address and the driver will meet you in the arrivals hall with a name sign. The price is fixed and agreed before the ride: Gdańsk city centre from 130 PLN (approx. 32 EUR), Sopot from 140 PLN (approx. 35 EUR), Gdynia from 160 PLN (approx. 40 EUR).
1) Yes, there are taxis at Gdańsk Airport

Plenty of first-time visitors wonder about this, especially when their flight lands late in the evening or in the middle of the night. The good news: there is a signposted taxi rank in front of the passenger terminal at Gdańsk Airport (IATA code: GDN), and cars pull up there around the clock, including weekends and public holidays. You do not have to arrange anything in advance just to get away from the airport.

The rank is served by licensed taxis that charge by the meter. It is the classic model you know from any large city: you get in, give the address, and the fare climbs during the journey according to that operator's tariff. Next to the rank you have two other choices. One is a ride ordered through a ride-hailing app once you have landed. The other is a transfer booked ahead, which is what we do every day: the driver waits in the arrivals hall and the price is agreed before the ride.

Each option fits a different trip. Travelling alone with a backpack, in the middle of the day and in no particular hurry, the rank is perfectly fine. Landing at two in the morning with two children and three suitcases, the gap between "I will sort something out" and "someone is waiting for me" becomes very real. Below we break it all down so you can decide before you even board your flight.

2) Finding the taxi rank after arrivals

The way to a taxi starts like any other way out of the airport. After landing you go through passport control if you are arriving from outside the Schengen area, then collect your luggage from the belt on the ground floor. Past the baggage reclaim exit is the arrivals hall, where people wait to meet passengers. From there, head for the building exit and follow the signs with the taxi pictogram.

The rank sits outside the terminal on the arrivals side, literally a few dozen steps from the doors. Taxis line up in a queue and passengers take them in the order they arrive. At quiet times a car is usually already waiting. It gets busier when several planes land close together, which happens regularly at GDN on summer afternoons and on Friday and Sunday evenings. A queue of passengers can then build up at the rank while taxis keep arriving.

Taxi rank: the practical side

  • ✓Outside the terminal, by the arrivals exit.
  • ✓Open around the clock, no booking needed.
  • ✓First come, first served.
  • ✓Fare charged by the operator's meter.

Pre-booked transfer: the practical side

  • ✓The driver waits in arrivals with a name sign.
  • ✓No searching for the rank and no queue.
  • ✓Help with luggage from the hall to the car.
  • ✓Fixed price confirmed before the ride.

With a transfer you do not have to step outside to hunt for a car at all. The driver stands by the baggage reclaim exit holding a sign, and if you cannot spot them, you simply call the number in your confirmation. The whole meeting process is described step by step in pickup at Gdańsk Airport: the arrivals hall.

3) What a taxi from the airport costs: meter vs fixed price

In a taxi from the rank, the meter sets the price. It is made up of a starting fee, a rate per kilometre and a waiting charge, for example in traffic or at lights. Rates depend on the operator and the tariff, and in many Polish cities, the Tri-City included, a higher tariff applies at night and on Sundays and public holidays than on weekdays. Maximum rates are capped by city regulations, but you only learn the exact amount for your ride once you reach your destination.

That does not make a taxi from the rank expensive by definition. On a short ride at a quiet time the meter often ends up reasonable. The catch is that you cannot predict it. The same trip to Sopot or Gdynia on a Friday afternoon, with the ring road jammed, can come out noticeably higher than on a Sunday morning. A fixed price works the other way round: you know the amount before you get in, and traffic, the time of day or a delayed flight do not change it. We explain the model in detail in what a fixed-price transfer really means.

Below are our fixed starting prices on the most popular routes from the airport. They are per car for up to three people, not per person, with luggage, flight monitoring and waiting time included. The full list is in our price list.

Route from Gdańsk Airport Time (approx.) Fixed price from
Airport – Gdańsk City Centre approx. 20-30 min 130 PLN (approx. 32 EUR)
Airport – Sopot approx. 20-30 min 140 PLN (approx. 35 EUR)
Airport – Pruszcz Gdański approx. 30 min 150 PLN (approx. 38 EUR)
Airport – Gdynia approx. 30-40 min 160 PLN (approx. 40 EUR)
Airport – Rumia approx. 35-45 min 200 PLN (approx. 50 EUR)

One thing to keep in mind when comparing: the fixed price covers the whole car, so with two or three people the cost per head drops quickly. For more on working out the cost of a ride yourself, see how much a taxi from Gdańsk Airport costs, and for the effect of traffic and night hours, read does the price change in traffic or at night.

4) Rank, app or pre-booked: a comparison

The three ways out of the airport differ not only in price but above all in how much you have to sort out yourself after landing. The table below helps match the option to your trip.

What matters Taxi from the rank Ride-hailing app Pre-booked transfer
Price known up front No, metered Estimate, rises with demand Yes, fixed
Waiting after landing Queue at peak times For an available driver Driver already there
Delayed flight Not relevant Not relevant We track it, no extra charge
Child seat Rarely available Usually not On request
VAT invoice for companies Depends on operator Depends on app Yes

Ride-hailing apps have a separate pickup zone, and you only order a driver once you have your luggage and a mobile signal. At quiet times that works smoothly; at night or when it is busy, both the wait and the price can rise noticeably. We compare these options in more depth in ride-hailing apps vs a private transfer.

5) What to watch out for after landing

Gdańsk Airport is well organised and most rides go without a hitch. Still, a few situations are worth knowing about in advance, because post-flight tiredness does not help with quick decisions.

What to avoid

  • !Offers of a lift from random people in the arrivals hall.
  • !Getting into a car with no taxi markings or visible fares.
  • !Assuming every taxi takes cards.
  • !Counting on a quick ride at peak arrival times without a booking.

What works

  • ✓Using only the signposted rank or a booked transfer.
  • ✓Asking about payment before you get in.
  • ✓Giving your full destination address straight away.
  • ✓Booking ahead for night arrivals, children or groups.

Travelling with small children is a separate issue. Polish law requires a child seat or restraint, and at the rank it is hard to find a car that has one on board. When you book, just give the child's age and weight and the seat will be ready. More in choosing a child seat for an airport transfer. The same goes for bigger groups: a regular taxi takes three, at most four people with luggage, and five or seven passengers need a larger vehicle, as explained in group airport transfers from Gdańsk.

The third situation is a late arrival. The rank does operate at night, but after the last flights of the day there can be more passengers than waiting cars. If several planes land at once, the wait for a taxi can be longer than expected. That is why many travellers on night flights prefer a pre-booked transfer, as we describe in night transfers from Gdańsk Airport.

6) How to book a taxi from Gdańsk Airport in advance

Booking takes a few minutes and can even be done on the day you fly, although the earlier you book, the easier it is to match the car to your group and luggage. The simplest ways are the form on our home page or WhatsApp. We need just a few details.

1

Give your flight number and date

We use it to track your landing time and send the car for your real arrival, even when the flight is delayed.

2

Enter your destination address

A hotel, apartment or home in Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia or further across the region. The exact address sets the final price.

3

Tell us passengers, luggage and child seats

That way we pick the right vehicle and prepare child seats if you need them.

4

Get your confirmation with a fixed price

We confirm the ride and amount by text or email. Pay by cash, card, BLIK or bank transfer with an invoice.

On the day itself you do not need to do anything. The driver follows your flight status, and after landing you have up to 60 minutes of free waiting time for passport control and luggage. When you come out of baggage reclaim, you will see a sign with your name. The detailed walkthrough is in how to book a Gdańsk Airport transfer step by step, and payment options are covered in payment methods for airport transfers.

In short: there are taxis at Gdańsk Airport, but if you want to know the price before the ride and skip the search for a car after landing, book a transfer: city centre from 130 PLN, Sopot from 140 PLN, Gdynia from 160 PLN.
7) A taxi to the airport before your flight

Going the other way is simpler, because you choose the time. You can call a taxi by phone or order one in an app from your hotel, but on weekday mornings and in the summer season you sometimes have to wait for a car, and with an early departure every minute counts. A ride booked the day before removes that stress: the driver arrives at the agreed time and the price is the same as in the other direction.

When planning, allow time for check-in and security, plus possible hold-ups on the ring road. How much time to leave from different parts of the Tri-City is covered in when to leave for Gdańsk Airport. If you already know you will need a ride both ways, just mention it in a single booking.

FAQ
Are there taxis at Gdańsk Airport?

Yes. There is a signposted taxi rank in front of the passenger terminal at Gdańsk Airport (GDN), right after you leave the arrivals hall. Taxis wait there around the clock and fares are charged by the meter. The alternative is a pre-booked transfer, where the driver meets you in the arrivals hall and the price is agreed before the ride.

How much is a taxi from Gdańsk Airport to the city centre?

At the rank the fare comes from the meter and depends on the operator's tariff, the time of day and traffic, so you only see the final amount at your destination. Our transfers use a fixed price instead: Gdańsk city centre from 130 PLN (approx. 32 EUR), Sopot from 140 PLN and Gdynia from 160 PLN per car for up to three people, with no night or traffic surcharges.

Where exactly is the taxi rank at Gdańsk Airport?

The rank is outside the terminal building on the arrivals side, at ground level, and signs with a taxi pictogram lead you there. With a pre-booked transfer you do not need to look for it, because the driver waits for you in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name.

Can I book a taxi from Gdańsk Airport in advance?

Yes. Fill in the booking form or send us a WhatsApp message with your flight number, destination address and number of passengers. We confirm the ride and the fixed price by text message or email, track your landing time, and include up to 60 minutes of waiting after arrival. You can book a ride to the airport before your departure the same way.

Can I pay by card in a taxi from Gdańsk Airport?

At the rank it depends on the individual car, so ask the driver before you get in. With a pre-booked transfer you choose the payment method up front: cash, card, BLIK or bank transfer with a VAT invoice for companies.
