1) When a taxi from Gdańsk to Warsaw makes sense

Most people flying to Warsaw land at Chopin Airport and never need us. Gdańsk, however, gets plenty of passengers for whom the capital is the second leg of the journey, and they make up most of the bookings on this route. Four situations come up again and again.

A cheaper or the only direct flight

From a number of cities in the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia the direct flight goes to Gdańsk, while Warsaw needs a connection. Many travellers deliberately fly into the Baltic coast and continue by road.

A late evening arrival

After 10 pm the last trains to Warsaw have either left or mean a dash across the main station with your bags. A transfer leaves when you walk out of arrivals, and you wake up in Warsaw.

A diverted or cancelled flight

When a flight to Warsaw is diverted to Gdańsk, a car with a driver is often the only way to get home or to a meeting on the same day.

The fourth group is companies and delegations: two or three people who, after a meeting in the Tricity, need to move on to Warsaw with laptops, samples or trade fair kit. With a full car the cost per person is close to train tickets plus taxis to and from the stations, and you can actually work on the way. If your flight is rescheduled, have a look at our guide to a delayed or cancelled flight at Gdańsk Airport.

2) The route: the ring road, the S7 and into the capital

From the terminal we take the Tricity Ring Road and then join the S7 expressway towards Elbląg. The S7 continues past Ostróda and Olsztynek, bypasses Mława and Płońsk and brings us to the edge of Warsaw. Practically the whole way is dual carriageway, so the pace is steady and the journey time is predictable: about 340 km and usually 3.5 hours.

Distance

About 340 km from the airport to central Warsaw. Addresses in Białołęka or Łomianki are a little closer, Ursynów or Wilanów a little further.

Travel time

Usually about 3.5 hours. On the S7 itself the time of day makes little difference; the last stretch through the city at rush hour can add 20 to 40 minutes.

A break halfway

The S7 has service areas with fuel, toilets and coffee. One short stop around Ostróda or Mława is the norm on this route rather than the exception.

For evening and night arrivals the road is empty and the drive is often noticeably quicker. That does not change the price either way, because there is no night or weekend surcharge. More on late arrivals in our night transfer from Gdańsk Airport guide, and on why Warsaw traffic does not push the bill up in does the price change in traffic or at night. If your destination is closer, we have separate articles on Olsztyn and the Masurian lakes and on Malbork, Toruń and Olsztyn.

3) What the Warsaw transfer costs and what is included

A transfer from Gdańsk Airport to Warsaw costs from 1780 PLN (approx. 443 EUR) for the whole car, up to 3 passengers. The price is fixed: we agree it when you book and confirm it by SMS or e-mail before the trip. There is no meter over those 340 km, so neither roadworks nor a queue on the way into the city changes what you pay at the end.

From Gdańsk Airport to Distance (approx.) Time (approx.) Price per car
Elbląg 80 km 1 h from 390 PLN (approx. 98 EUR)
Olsztyn 150 km 2 h from 920 PLN (approx. 230 EUR)
Warsaw 340 km 3 h 30 min from 1780 PLN (approx. 443 EUR)
7-8 seat van to Warsaw 340 km 3 h 30 min individual quote

The price includes:

  • ✓Meet and greet in the arrivals hall and help with your bags.
  • ✓Flight tracking and 60 minutes of waiting time from actual landing.
  • ✓Luggage within the car's capacity and drop-off at your Warsaw address.
  • ✓No surcharge for nights, weekends, public holidays or traffic.
  • ✓Payment in cash, by card, BLIK or bank transfer, with a VAT invoice if needed.

Optional extras are a child seat or booster (30 PLN each) and an extra stop on the route (30 PLN). After the first free hour of waiting we charge 1 PLN per extra minute, though with flight tracking this rarely happens. With three passengers it comes to just under 600 PLN each. The full list of destinations is on our transfer prices page, and the route details on Gdańsk Airport to Warsaw. Larger parties should read group airport transfers in Gdańsk.

4) Train, connecting flight or private transfer

To be fair: if you are travelling alone, with a backpack, during the day and with no fixed time to be in Warsaw, the train will be cheaper. Express trains from Gdańsk Główny reach the capital in just under three hours. But add the trip from the airport to the station, waiting for a specific train and getting from Warszawa Centralna to your actual address. Door to door, from the arrivals hall to your hotel, it usually takes about as long as the car, only with three changes and your luggage in your hands.

Connecting to a domestic flight sounds quick, but the flight itself is only part of it. Add check-in, security, waiting for bags and the ride from Chopin Airport into town. Arriving from abroad you also need a connection at a sensible hour, and if your first flight is late, the second one may leave without you.

A private transfer wins where predictability and door-to-door matter: two or three people, heavy luggage, children, evenings and nights, diverted flights, and whenever you need to be at a specific address at a specific time. You know the price before you fly, the driver waits in arrivals with a name sign, and if you are delayed they simply arrive later. We compare the options in more detail in Bolt, Uber or a private transfer. Ride-hailing apps rarely accept a 340 km trip, and when they do the price depends on the algorithm and demand.

5) Comfort for 3.5 hours: breaks, luggage, working on the way

Nobody thinks about comfort on a 20-minute ride; over 340 km it is everything. We drive comfortable, air-conditioned cars with proper legroom in the back. If you want to work, tell the driver at the start and they will keep conversation and the radio to a minimum. If you want to sleep after an overnight flight, even more so.

A standard car for up to 3 people usually takes three large suitcases plus hand luggage. If you are carrying trade fair kit, roll-up banners, boxes of materials or several cases each, mention it in the booking notes. We will send a larger car or a van and confirm the price beforehand, not in the car park outside the terminal. Capacities are listed in luggage in a transfer: how much really fits.

With children, what matters is a seat suited to their age and height, booked together with the ride: infant carrier, child seat or booster, 30 PLN each, fitted before the driver leaves for the airport. On a drive this long, plan one or two breaks with the driver. Details in our child seat airport transfer guide.

If you need to pick up or drop off someone on the way, for example a colleague in Elbląg, add a stop in the form. An address on the route costs 30 PLN; bigger detours off the S7 are priced before the trip, so there are no surprises.

6) The return trip and booking

The price towards Gdańsk is the same as from the airport, so a pick-up in Warsaw to Gdańsk Airport is also from 1780 PLN per car. If you book both legs together and prepay them, the return is 10 percent cheaper. We work out the departure time backwards from your flight: around 2 hours at the airport for a Schengen flight, more outside Schengen, plus 3.5 hours of driving and a buffer for leaving Warsaw at rush hour. For early morning flights that means setting off in the middle of the night, with no extra charge for the hour. More in our guide on when to leave for Gdańsk Airport.

Booking takes a few minutes. Enter your Warsaw address, the date, time and flight number in the form, and tick the return transfer if you need one. For a trip this long, book as early as you can, ideally as soon as you have your ticket; see how to book a Gdańsk Airport taxi in advance. Bookings less than 2 hours ahead are taken by phone or WhatsApp only. You choose how to pay: cash in PLN or EUR, card, BLIK, bank transfer, and for companies a VAT invoice, explained in Gdańsk Airport transfer with a VAT invoice.

In short: Gdańsk Airport to Warsaw is about 340 km on the S7 expressway, usually 3.5 hours, at a fixed price from 1780 PLN (approx. 443 EUR) per car for up to 3 people. No meter, no night or traffic surcharge, meet and greet in arrivals, flight tracking, a VAT invoice on request and 10 percent off the return leg when you prepay both trips.
