Gdańsk Airport Taxi to Kashubia (Kartuzy, Wdzydze): Route, Time and Price
Kashubia starts almost at the end of the runway. Gdańsk Airport lies on the western edge of the city, exactly where the land begins to rise into wooded hills dotted with lakes. Here is how a transfer from Gdańsk Airport to Kartuzy, Kościerzyna, Wdzydze and the lakeside cottages works, how long it takes, what it costs and why a car to your door makes more sense here than almost anywhere else in Pomerania.
Most travellers think of Gdańsk Airport as the gateway to the Old Town, Sopot or Gdynia. Yet the terminal faces the other way from the sea: it sits on the hills west of the city, a quarter of an hour from Żukowo. Żukowo is already Kashubia, and beyond it the road winds through forest and rolling countryside towards Kartuzy, Chmielno and Kościerzyna. You skip the city centre and the rush-hour ring road entirely.
The catch is that Kashubia is spread out. Small villages, summer cottages on lakeshores and farm stays at the end of forest tracks. Regional buses mostly link the bigger towns and rarely match flight times. There is no direct rail link from the airport to the region, and even if you make it to Kartuzy by train, you still need a car to reach a guesthouse on Lake Raduńskie.
If you are staying in Gdańsk and only want to see the region in a day, a private tour with a driver is the better option. We cover that separately in Kashubia day tour from Gdańsk. This article is only about the transfer: getting from the airport to where you are sleeping, and back again.
From the airport we usually head through Żukowo. From there the route splits depending on where you are going: north-west towards Kartuzy and Chmielno, or south along national road 20 towards Kościerzyna and Wdzydze. The times below are approximate and assume normal traffic outside the peak of the season.
Kartuzy and Chmielno
The county town, known for its collegiate church with a roof shaped like a coffin lid, and Chmielno with the Raduńskie lakes and its Kashubian pottery tradition. Usually 30 to 45 minutes from the airport.
Szymbark and Wieżyca
The area around the highest hill in Pomerania, with the regional heritage centre in Szymbark and the ski slope at Wieżyca. Expect roughly 40 to 50 minutes.
Kościerzyna and Wdzydze
Kościerzyna is about 60 km from the airport, a 60 to 75 minute drive. Wdzydze Kiszewskie, with its open-air museum and the lake locals call the Kashubian Sea, lies a little further south.
We also regularly drive to Stężyca, Golubie and Ostrzyce on Lake Raduńskie, to Sierakowice in the west of the region and to Somonino and Egiertowo on the way to Kościerzyna. If your address is not on this list, that is fine: we quote for your exact address, not for the name of the municipality.
A transfer from Gdańsk Airport to Kościerzyna costs from 300 PLN (approx. 75 EUR) for the whole car. The price is fixed: agreed at booking and unaffected by traffic, detours or the time of day. Other places in Kashubia are quoted individually, because addresses here are widely scattered and two cottages in the same municipality can be separated by kilometres of forest track. You always get the price before the ride, never a guess afterwards.
| From Gdańsk Airport to | Time (approx.) | Price per car |
|---|---|---|
| Kartuzy, Chmielno | approx. 30 to 45 min | individual quote |
| Szymbark, Wieżyca, Stężyca | approx. 40 to 50 min | individual quote |
| Kościerzyna | approx. 60 to 75 min | from 300 PLN (approx. 75 EUR) |
| Wdzydze Kiszewskie and around | approx. 1.5 h | individual quote |
The price includes:
- ✓Pickup in the arrivals hall and help with your luggage.
- ✓Flight monitoring, with the pickup matched to your actual landing time.
- ✓Large luggage within the car's capacity, including a week's worth of groceries for the cottage.
- ✓No night, weekend or holiday surcharges.
- ✓Payment in cash, by card, BLIK or bank transfer, with a VAT invoice if needed.
You can add a child seat or booster (+30 PLN each) or a stop on the way (+30 PLN). In Kashubia that stop comes in handy surprisingly often: a supermarket run in Żukowo or Kartuzy before you reach the cottage, or picking up the keys from your hosts in the next village. The base price covers a car for up to 3 passengers; larger groups travel by van and are quoted individually, see group airport transfer from Gdańsk. Current prices for all routes are on our transfer prices page, and the route details are on Gdańsk Airport to Kościerzyna.
The biggest difference between a transfer to Sopot and one to Kashubia is the address. In town, a street and a house number are enough. In Kashubia your accommodation may have a village name and a plot number, and the sat-nav happily sends you to the wrong side of the lake or down a forest lane that goes nowhere. That is why we ask for three things when you book.
- ✓A map pin. A location link from your hosts saves fifteen minutes of circling the village, especially after dark.
- ✓A description of the last stretch. Is the road paved, does it go through the woods, is there a gate or barrier?
- ✓Your hosts' phone number. Useful when someone needs to open a gate or tell us where the keys are.
We drive anywhere a regular car can go safely. If the last few hundred metres are a sandy track after heavy rain, the driver will get as close as possible and help you with the bags. That is a more honest promise than guaranteeing every doorstep, which nobody can do in Kashubia without knowing the exact spot.
If you land in the evening, let your hosts know roughly when you will arrive. After landing the driver can give you an estimated arrival time, and you can pass it on before the phone signal fades in the forest.
You can reach Kashubia without a transfer, and for some travellers that will be the right call. Just count more than the ticket price: time, changes and that last stretch to your accommodation.
| Option | What the journey looks like | What to watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Bus and train | Get to Gdańsk or Gdynia first, then a service to Kartuzy or Kościerzyna | Changes with luggage, few evening services, no link to cottages outside the villages |
| Rental car | Pick up a car at the airport and drive yourself | Paying for the whole stay, returning it before your flight, finding the way in the dark |
| Taxi from the rank | Metered ride from outside the terminal | You only learn the fare at the end, out-of-town tariff beyond the Gdańsk city limits |
| Door-to-door transfer | Pickup in arrivals, straight to your address | Needs booking in advance, ideally with your flight number |
Renting a car makes sense if you plan to explore the region every day. But if you are spending a week by the lake to switch off, the car mostly sits outside the cottage while you pay for every day. A transfer both ways is then often cheaper and easier. We explain the difference between a meter and a fixed price in taxi fares in Gdańsk 2026, and how the rank outside the terminal works in taxis at Gdańsk Airport.
In summer the region fills up with holidaymakers from the Tricity and the rest of Poland. On Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings the roads between Gdańsk, Kartuzy and Kościerzyna get noticeably busier and the lakeside towns get crowded. That does not change the transfer price, which is fixed, but it is worth allowing an extra fifteen minutes or so, especially on the way back to the airport.
Winter is quieter, although the Wieżyca area draws skiers and snow lingers longer on the higher ground than in the Tricity. Side roads to cottages are often cleared later than the main routes. If you are staying somewhere like that, mention it when you book and we will plan the departure with a bigger margin.
Whatever the season, evening and night arrivals cost the same. Read more about late rides in night transfer from Gdańsk Airport, and if you are travelling with young children, see family transfers: child seats and luggage.
It is best to book your Kashubia transfer before you fly, together with your flight number and the exact address of your stay. Bookings made less than 2 hours before pickup are handled by phone or WhatsApp only.
- ✓Send the address and a map pin. They set the price and make sure we find you first time.
- ✓Add your flight number. We adjust the pickup to the actual landing, even if you are delayed.
- ✓Tell us about your luggage. A pushchair, kids' bikes, kayak bags or fishing gear affect which car we send.
- ✓Add the return trip now. The return ride is 10 percent cheaper when both rides are prepaid.
For the trip back, allow about 45 minutes from Kartuzy and over an hour from Kościerzyna or Wdzydze, plus time for check-in and security. We show how to work out your departure time in when to leave for Gdańsk Airport. The booking process is explained step by step in how to book a Gdańsk Airport transfer, and if you would like to see more of the region with a driver during your stay, take a look at our Kashubia tour and the other day trips.
How much is a taxi from Gdańsk Airport to Kościerzyna?
A transfer from Gdańsk Airport to Kościerzyna costs from 300 PLN (approx. 75 EUR) for the whole car, not per person. The price is fixed and confirmed before the ride, and it includes luggage and flight monitoring. Optional extras are a child seat (+30 PLN) or an extra stop on the way (+30 PLN).
How much does it cost to Kartuzy, Chmielno or Wdzydze?
Other places in Kashubia, such as Kartuzy, Chmielno, Szymbark, Wieżyca or Wdzydze Kiszewskie, are quoted individually based on the exact address. Just send it through the booking form or WhatsApp and we will confirm a fixed price before you book.
How long is the drive from Gdańsk Airport to Kashubia?
Usually 30 to 40 minutes to Kartuzy, 60 to 75 minutes to Kościerzyna and roughly an hour and a half to Wdzydze Kiszewskie. The airport sits on the western edge of Gdańsk, so you never have to cross the city centre to get there.
Can you drive right up to a lake cottage or a farm stay outside the village?
Yes. The ride ends at the address you give us, including places on unpaved roads, as long as a regular car can get there safely. When booking, add the directions from your hosts or a map pin, because sat-navs in Kashubia are not always reliable.

What if my flight is delayed?
Add your flight number when booking. We track the arrival and adjust the pickup to the actual landing time, with no charge for waiting. You do not need to call anyone or rebook.
